Sohbet – six inches of snow

The sparrows are having a party
in the poplar across the street.

Six inches of snow last night,
but this morning sun
has them singing of Spring.

Sohbet – The Sharp Edge of Shears

Garden at twilight.

Everything pruned back
cleared out.
No barren wasteland.
There’s fecundity
in this emptiness.

Seemingly harsh cuts
make room to grow.

Resting
in a space
of gratitude
for the sharp edge
of shears.

Sohbet – Dance Already!

Dance Already!

I see you standing there
knee bobbing
fingers twitching
to imaginary guitar riffs

your body wants to move
so…

Dance Already!

I see the dichotomy in you
like a timid puppy
eager to play
but uncertain in strange territory

Dance Already!

have you seen this crowd?
a guy in a dress
a couple wearing nothing
but g-strings and body paint

no one would even notice
if you just let go
and joined in with the
thrumming
hopping
sweating
bodies all around you

okay, I’d notice
but that’s just because
I see you standing there
knee bobbing
fingers twitching
and I want to shout

Dance Already!

Sohbet – a different life

I remeber a different life
a poet’s call
such waste
body laying, yearing
too long in the field
let it all go
something of this pain
grew out of shit
formed a different life

Sohbet – haiku tree

We’re going to try something new here. A haiku tree. I’ll start a haiku (the trunk) and you all can take any word/theme from the poem and add your own haiku (add a branch) or take a snippit from someone else’s haiku response to graft a branch on their branch, and well see just what kind of wild and winding tree we can grow here.

Logistics: if you’re branching off of my haiku, you’ll need to post it in the Leave a Reply box at the bottom of the page, if you want to build on somebody else’s branch be sure to click on Reply by their name.

This could be very cool…

Here’s the starting haiku:

* * *

A flat of peaches
Brought home from warmer valleys
Scent infuses space
